Mother Lily’s half a billion peso goal!
By WALDEN SADIRI
At the height of the controversy in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival awards, Mother Lily (Monteverde) vowed not to participate anymore in the annual film festival. But here’s she is, even more emboldened and inspired as she announced her goal: To make no less than half a billion pesos in this year’s MMFF!
Mother Lily, who could be called the present-day matriarch of Philippine Cinema, shrugged off possible future intrigues with the inclusion of "Super Noypi" to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, totalling Regal Entertainment’s entries to four. This was made possible when Star Cinema backed out from this year’s annual film festival.
"It’s my commitment to the movie industry," she explained as to why she’s pushing through with "Super Noypi." She added that if she doesn’t (produce more movies), who would do it?
Definitely, another entry could mean additional expense for Regal Entertainment, but Mother Lily is very optimistic of her films’ R.O.I. (Return On Investment). She expects to rake in at least P500 million or half a billion pesos from her four entries!
Regal Entertainment’s entries include "ZsaZsa Zaturnnah" with Joel Lamangan as director, and starring Zsa Zsa Padilla, Pops Fernandez, Rustom Padilla and Chocoleit; another "Shake, Rattle & Roll" version with GMA Artist Center’s Rahyan Carlos directing the episode entitled "13th Floor" starring Katrina Halili, Iwa Moto the "Yaya" episode topbilled by Iza Calzado with Quark Henares as director; and the third episode "LRT" starring Keempee de Leon, Marco Alcaraz, Camille Prats, Jackie Rice and LJ Reyes under the direction of Mike Tuviera.
Regal also has another Angel Locsin-Dennis Trillo romance flick written and to be directed by Jun Lana entitled "Gua Aidi." It may also star Isabel Oli, Paolo Contis and Patrick Garcia and Ms. Boots Anson Roa. They are also working out to cast the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano in the said film.
"Super Noypi" is a Jennylyn Mercado-Mark Herras team-up film with Polo Ravales, John Prats, Shaina Magdayao, Rhian Ramos and Victor Neri among others completing the cast. It will be helmed by Quark Henares.
These entries will go head on with Vic Sotto’s (Box Office King of the two previous MMFFs) latest "Enteng Kabisote" version; "Karma," "Short Time" under OctorArts Films, "Batang Maynila" by Cesar Montano, and Violett Films’ "Tatlong Baraha."
With regards to her "word war" with Wilson Cheng et al in the last MMFF, Mother Lily simply smiled and expressed that everything’s in the past. Her goal right now is to give the Filipino moviegoing public good movies to enjoy this coming Christmas Season!
